What we have done with the environmental burden of accommodation

We have reduced the environmental burden of accommodation with the following measures:

The rooms of our long-term guests are cleaned every day and the sheets are changed every third night.

The temperature in the rooms is set at 21c, the air conditioning is automated/ ventilation is automated.

Most of the lamps we use are LED or energy-saving lamps.

Showers and bathroom furniture are water-saving. We use water-saving cleaning methods and all the cleaning and detergents we use are eco-labeled. All soap, shampoo and conditioner are also eco-labelled.

Common Principles of Sustainable Travel

1. WE BELIEVE IN FAIR COOPERATION

We develop travel in cooperation with other actors in our region and industry. Together we can better impact the future of society and travel. Because we want our region to be a great place to live and visit both now and in the future, we make decisions that are sustainable for future generations, as well. We treat everyone with respect and fairness, and we only conduct fair and honest business.

2. WE TAKE CARE OF NATURE

We protect our region’s environment, landscapes and biodiversity. Our operations do not exceed the carrying capacity of nature, but help to safeguard the opportunities for a good life and the preservation of our region’s clean operating environment. We also take care of the welfare and dignified treatment of our animals.

3. WE RESPECT CULTURAL HERITAGE

We preserve the cultural heritage of our region. We aim to present, revitalise, maintain, and strengthen culture genuinely and respectfully. We also understand that cultures have always developed in interaction and learned from each other.

4. WE PROMOTE WELLBEING, HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUALITY

We treat our employees, guests, and the residents of our area equally and with respect, regardless of their background. We consider people’s special needs in our operations. We train, guide and encourage our employees to act responsibly.

5. WE PREFER LOCAL

We support our region’s products, services and businesses, and our goal is to employ local people. We prefer food made from Finnish raw ingredients. We involve residents and businesses in matters that concern them.

6. WE INVEST IN SAFETY AND QUALITY

We ensure the safety of our local residents, staff, and guests, as well as compliance with the law and government regulations. When we develop our services and products with a primary focus on quality, we create the conditions for the continuity of our operations.

7. WE CONSIDER CLIMATE IMPACTS

We make good climate choices and reduce our carbon footprint. We monitor the environmental impact of travel and aim for more efficient use of energy and resources through active measurements.

8. WE COMMUNICATE OPENLY

In our region, we boldly communicate about the responsible actions of travel and future plans and visions. We want Finnish sustainable travel to be known around the world. We are not only open about our successes but also challenges.

9. WE ARE CONSTANTLY DEVELOPING OUR BUSINESS

We are ready to renew our services and products to keep them in demand in the future. A stable economy and ethical business practices provide the basis for the sustainable development of operations.

10. WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL

We take an active role in promoting and implementing these principles of sustainable travel. We will create a sustainable travel action plan, which will guide us more systematically in the future. We are committed to action and want to learn more in the future, too.

Responsibility and sustainability declaration

We put high emphasis on eco-friendliness in our actions because we want to ensure our responsibility of protecting nature and culture. We are convinced that every company’s and individual’s contribution is important.

Running our business in an eco-friendly way and sustaining the cultural environment is a strategic decision.

Environmentally friendly activities reduce the burden on nature and at the same time, is economically clever. Our goal is to implement responsible business considering the economical profitability and competitiveness without omitting the environmental and social effects of our operations.

The working environment at Krapi is safe and we have taken risks and crises under consideration.

We train our staff and communicate our staff and guests as well us our partners to improve sustainable development.

We are committed to the equal treatment and rights of all people and fight against corruption and commercial, sexual, or other exploitation of those in a vulnerable position, as well as all kinds of harassment. We work for social sustainability in our area for the benefit of both our staff and our guests.

Our biggest direct environmental impact comes from the consumption of resources such as energy and water. We actively try to reduce the consumption of the earth’s resources and minimize the generation of waste and improve its sorting. We use 100% renewable electricity, environmentally friendly products, and resource-efficient technology. We measure and monitor our environmental efficiency regularly, also by measuring water, electricity, and energy consumption, as well as the amount of waste generated in our operations.

Our purchases also have a large indirect environmental impact, for example in terms of food and chemicals. That’s why we commit to use as much locally produced, eco-labeled and seasonal products and food as possible, and not to use meat, fish or shellfish products originating from endangered or protected stocks or species. We minimize food waste; we minimize the use of use disposables. The cleaning and washing agents and tissue paper we use are eco-labeled.

Compliance with laws, regulations and other requirements is the minimum level for us, and we are committed to exceeding current laws and regulations related to sustainable development.

We want to be at the forefront of creating a sustainable tourism industry and inspire other actors, customers, and personnel to participate in sustainable development activities.

Providing environmentally friendly services is good service. We also want to encourage our guests to participate in environmental responsibility. Our services must be able to be produced and enjoyed with an ecological conscience.
